Hope Helps!

Whether we’re looking at the state of the environment, countries at war, violent crime, or national politics, hanging onto hope can be hard.

Sometimes we wonder, “Why should I even try?”

It’s easy to feel overwhelmed … yet several studies highlight the critical role of hope in today’s world:

1. American Psychological Association (APA): Research suggests that hope is essential for cultivating positive change in individuals and society. It involves goal-setting, agency, and cognitive restructuring, helping people believe that their current situation is not the end of the story1.

2. Harvard Health: Studies show that hope is linked to improved coping, well-being, and engagement in healthy behaviors, especially among young adults with chronic illnesses. It also protects against depression and suicide2.

3. Psychology Today: Hope is described as a universal and powerful human need, integral to our lives. It is foundational in various cultural and religious practices, emphasizing its importance across different aspects of life3.

These studies underscore that hope is not just a passive wish but an ACTIVE PROCESS that can significantly impact mental health and overall well-being.

And how or where do we replenish the energy to engage in that active process?
