The Spirit of the Firebird is relational. It’s all about connecting — to Essence … to Self … to Others … to the World around us.
With all the changes in our nation (and the world), with all of the divisions, separation and challenges facing us every day, the roles of community …
of faith … of hope all affect the ways we see ourselves and our world.
Firebird Spirit is NOT A CHURCH … at least not in the traditional sense.
The Spirit does connect us in a COMMUNITY OF HOPE, and although we are rooted in the progressive and prophetic Reformed Theology of Jesus-followers, we embrace all faith backgrounds as well as those with no faith affiliation. We are constantly EVOLVING in how we walk the Way.
The programs that we offer online — Acts of Faith, or sometimes referred to as Acts of Hope — include weekly worship services – FIREBIRD WORSHIP, group discussions of books and movies – through the FIREBIRD ACADEMY OF LEARNING, shared reflections of members on contemporary cultural events, interactive Bible studies, and more. As one member said years ago when we began, “This is Bible Study for thinking people,” and it is enriched through our diverse members.
The Firebird is a Spirit of BOTH-AND … not either-or.
You do not need to stop participating in groups, churches, synagogues, mosques, etc. that you belong to. Maybe you live in a part of the country where you think more progressively than your neighbors, or where your own self-defining adjectives make it a not safe place for you to connect with others.
In the last year, we have had participants join us from many parts of the country (Arizona, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Texas, Utah, and Washington state) and many faith backgrounds (Agnostic, American Baptist, Baha’i, Episcopalian, Lutheran, Presbyterian, Roman Catholic, Unitarian, and United Methodist as well as those who identify as “none of the above”).
And those are just the ongoing studies and discussion groups. We have no idea where the thousands of viewers for our weekly worship services hail from.
Everything begins with
We all have things that we identify as spiritual in our lives. And those things are frequently NOT all found in the same place. So what DO we need in order to shore up a spiritual foundation?
